Poetry Slam! Spring 2004

InfiniumEtAl (2004)

With the constraints of Pi (did=3, i=1, find=4, a=1, haven=5,
emergency=9 ....Until 290 charachters of pi.)

Did I Find a Haven?

Emergency an' deaths
Tired and weary
Silently pondering volumes
Extolling all by now
Obsolete gore
During my rather long nap
The weirdest zap
An ominous vibrating sound
Disturbing my sprawled recovery
This I whispered quietly
I Ignore.

Perfectly the intellect remembers:
The ghostly fires,
A glittering ember
Inflamed by adrenaline
Outbursts
Mangled, shot, diabetes,
Sorrowful, as one
Mistreated
Unhappy thoughts I heeded
Pain,
Physiology: lessons in elegance
Scared
Is delighting, exciting…..Suffering

Ominously,
Ignorant listen
My serenity outsmarted
And fear overcame my being
The fear of epinephrine
Diarrhea, anesthesia.
Junkie: Selfish confided
As I said
Hospital dissection
Spurting stench forth
A man is visiting of the immunology

Taking little time
Briskly addressing, diagnosis
AID's Myotonia
Tell what source originates
Amblyopia, Apnea, Glial
Disturbing,
Ovary Unkindly
Is it you I respect?
E.R. Dying
Why devil incarnate
Here completely unveiled
I am disorder
Just darkness
I ascertained
Nothing more

While surrounded by darkness,
Than I preserved to clearly comprehend
I perceived old violence:
Filth of everlasting traumatic's
Quite, Quite
Quick breathing
Doubts fled
Such relief!
IV, O2, transport,
Hell
Cyanosis
Imagine still that perchance the apparition
Was uttering a whispered breath
This only
Is speeding

Silently I;
Inferiorly
Anxious, quite scared
Afraid, while intrusive
May his end then come thrice
O, so stranger
Beat infarct heart.

Enzyme mask albinism
It was the surgeon
Clanging needle, scalpel
Glancing out: I quacked
Upset by horrors
Intravenous morphology
A pediatric

Completely disturbed
I said, radio, please, what prevails ahead
Repose, relief, cessation?
Or but more triage
Chemotaxis, the puke intruded, stench.
O' Irritation ever since.

Turn rig on
Sirens, lights
Sick watching me I sat:
War, emergency
New trauma,
Dispatcher yelped

(Infiniums note: I must acknowledge that this concept is not my own. I used Keiths creative juices and pumped them into my veins. I think that I did the poem well by not being restrained by his intuition and hard work and working enough on the poem to own it. Nevertheless, thank you for the inspiration.)
